What Are My Options?

1. Medicare Supplements

Medicare supplements are health insurance policies sold by private insurers that work in conjunction with and help cover the GAPS in Original Medicare. They are also sometimes called “Medigap Plans” or “secondary plans”. You must be entitled to Part A and enrolled in Part B (Click here if you need help signing up for Part B) to qualify for a Medicare Supplement plan. These policies have a premium that must be paid in addition to the Part B premium.

2. Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans combine your Part A and Part B coverage into one plan and often include additional benefits such as prescription drug coverage, dental, vision, hearing, and fitness programs. Medicare Advantage plans may have provider networks and copays, but they can offer comprehensive coverage with low or even $0 monthly plan premiums in many areas.

3. Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)

Medicare Part D plans help cover the cost of prescription medications. These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare and can be added to Original Medicare. Each plan has its own list of covered drugs, pharmacies, and costs, so it's important to choose a plan that fits your specific medication needs. A Part D plan can help lower your prescription expenses and protect you from high drug costs throughout the year.
